The golden retriever was first bred in Scotland for hunting. The golden retriever has since evolved into an excellent pet for families with children from a crossed breed yellow retriever with the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel. Goldens are enthusiastic at whatever they do, be it hunting, serving as guide dogs, working search-and-rescue, or being devoted companions. Though they are passionate about their work, they also enjoy being downright silly making them perfect with children.
